Now, they earn Rs 15 crore annually, and the brand employs 50 women in preparing and packaging traditional Indian snack. Actor R Madhavan often delights his fans with interesting social media updates and this time was no exception. The Dhurandhar star recently shared an inspiring post on his Instagram stories featuring a mother and son duo who did something extraordinary. They took the beloved taste of thekuas, from Bihar to Bengaluru turning a regional delicacy into a thriving Rs 75 crore business. Now, entrepreneur Veena Devi and her son Sameer’s journey to success has received appreciation from R Madhavan himself . Thekuas, a classic deep-fried Indian sweet from Bihar, known for their crispy, crumbly texture, rich aroma of ghee and deep caramel-like sweetness has long been a festive delicacy, especially during Chhath Puja. But since most store-bought thekuas are packed with chemicals, preservatives and excess sugar, Sameer believed that the flavour of healthy and tasty homemade thekuas could appeal to people even more. From 4 stoves to a successful empire Sameer asked himself one question – What if he could bring authentic North Indian snacks to the rest of the country but make them ‘completely clean’. That’s how the now-famous thekua brand MomsMade was born, offering a touch of home and warmth of a mother. Veena Devi’s thekuas come with no sugar, maida or palm oil. Instead she and her team uses pure gur or jaggery, desi ghee and whole wheat. As per the post, MomsMade was built with just 4 stoves in a home kitchen where Veena Devi prepared the thekuas and Sameer handled the brand’s marketing. Slowly, the quaint home kitchen became a booming business, with the mother-son duo now earning Rs 15 crore a year with over 1000 orders every day. Every batch of these thekuas are thoroughly checked for that delectable crunch and natural brown colour. What started as a humble effort in the kitchen has transformed into a successful venture, showing how a mother’s simple recipe can touch the hearts of many. At present, the brand has employed 50 women who are involved in preparing and packaging the snacks. Besides thekuas, MomsMade also specialises in traditional snacks like nimki and channa dal.
